The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team opened the 2012-2013 campaign with a thrilling come-from-behind win over the Madison College Wolfpack in the Milwaukee Area Technical College Classic on Friday evening.
The Golden Rams trailed 66-57 with about four minutes remaining before going on a 9-0 run to tie the score, thanks to consecutive three-point field goals by sophomore Jon Conner.
Anoka-Ramsey led 74-70 with about a minute remaining. Two free throws by Madison cut the lead to just two, 74-72.
Freshman Perri Vaden made one of two free throws to increase the lead to 75-72. On the ensuing possession, the Golden Rams fouled a Madison three-point shooter with 6.8 seconds left.
After Madison made the first free throw, the Golden Rams called a timeout. Two made free-throws later, and a 75-75 tie, Anoka-Ramsey quickly inbounded the ball to sophomore Lucas Barraud who went the length of the floor, sinking a semi-contested layup with 1.2 seconds left for the final margin.
The Golden Rams were led by the hot shooting of freshman Montez Wilkerson who tallied 34 points on 8-11 from the three-point line. Wilkerson notched 20 of his 34 points in the second half.
Vaden finished with ten points and a team-high six rebounds.
Barraud tallied ten points; and Conner finished with nine on 3-7 shooting from three to go with four assists.
The Golden Rams shot 15-34 (44.1%) from the three-point line and forced 23 Madison turnovers.
Anoka-Ramsey will face Milwaukee Area Technical College on Saturday at 4:00pm.
