Ron begins his seventh season at the helm of the Golden Rams in 2014-2015. Prior to taking over at Anoka-Ramsey, Ron was the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at St. Francis High School for 28 years while also serving as the school’s Athletic Director for 20 years. He compiled nearly 500 wins in his high school coaching career and was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He led three teams to the MSHSL State Tournament and coached numerous All-Conference players. He also runs the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association clinic, the largest basketball clinic in the state of Minnesota.
In his first season at Anoka-Ramsey (2008-2009), the Golden Rams posted a 6-21 record. In 2009-2010 the team showed improvement as they went 10-17 and had two players receive MCAC All-Southern Division honors, with one of those players being named to the All-State team. The 2009-2010 team finished 5th in the nation in 3-point field goals made with 239 total (8.8 per game) while averaging over 78 points per game.
The 2010-2011 season saw the Golden Rams finish with an overall record of 22-8 and 8-4 in the MCAC Southern Division; good for a 3rd place regular season finish. The Golden Rams made a late-season run to the NJCAA Region XIII tournament championship game where they fell to Rochester in overtime. Highlights from the season were upsets of #3 ranked Central Lakes on the road, as well as upsetting #1 ranked Rochester on the road. Sophomore Trey Scott earned All-State honors after leading the Southern Division in scoring (21.4 points per game) and steals (4.7 per game).
The 2011-2012 season was eerily similar to 2010-2011 as the team again finished 22-8 overall and 8-4 in the MCAC Southern Division. However, this time the Golden Rams lost in the Region XIII semifinals and defeated Rochester Community and Technical College in the third place game. Four Golden Rams were named All-Southern Division, with one earning All-State honors. Two players also received NAIA scholarships to continue their athletic and academic careers.
In 2012-2013 the Golden Rams finished 16-14 overall and again placed third in the Region XIII tournament.
Coach Larson's sixth season at the helm resulted in a school-record 24 wins and just the second Region XIII Championship in program history, advancing to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in New York where the team finished sixth. Coach Larson earned Region XIII Coach of the Year honors as well as NJCAA District 4 Coach of the Year. Three Golden Rams earned All-MCAC honors with Trenton Pollard being named the Region XIII Tournament MVP, and Lemuel Doe earning a spot on the NJCAA Division III National Tournament All-Tournament team.
