Game Story: Overtime Thriller Ends With Loss

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men’s Basketball team lost an overtime thriller 86-83 to the Central Lakes College Raiders on Wednesday night.  Central Lakes entered the game undefeated and ranked #3 in the nation.
A slow start by the Golden Rams allowed CLC to open up an early eight point advantage before Anoka-Ramsey began chipping away with strong defense.
Central Lakes led 36-32 at halftime despite shooting 36.1% compared to Anoka-Ramsey’s 52%.  The difference was made up by Anoka-Ramsey’s 13 first half turnovers.
The turnover woes continued in the second half as Central Lakes opened the period on a 13-2 run to take a 49-34 lead.  Once again, the Golden Rams picked up their defense and began trimming the deficit.
The teams traded leads throughout the last five minutes with the teams exchanging big shots.
Both teams missed opportunities to win the game in regulation as the score was knotted at 74 apiece.
Central Lakes outlasted Anoka-Ramsey in the overtime period 12-9 as Trey Scott’s last second shot from 30 feet fell short.
The Golden Rams shot 47.5% from the field and 11-21 from the three-point line.  However, their 26 turnovers were too much to overcome.  Central Lakes finished the night shooting 39.5%.
Anoka-Ramsey was led by Scott’s 29 points, with 23 coming after halftime.  Scott was 10-18 from the field including 6-10 from three-point range while also contributing a team-high 11 rebounds and nine steals, narrowly missing a triple-double.
Dan Konz had 20 points, Matt Fridberg chipped in with 12, and Richard Harmon finished with 11 points and six assists.
Anoka-Ramsey drops to 12-6 on the season and 1-3 in the MCAC Southern Division.  Next up is a trip to Worthington, MN to take on Minnesota West on Saturday, January 22nd at 3:00pm.
