The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team tallied two wins in the Anoka-Ramsey Holiday Classic on December 29th and 30th. In Game One, the Golden Rams defeated United Tribes Technical College 104-48, recording season-bests in both points scored and fewest points allowed.
Anoka-Ramsey jumped out to an early lead on the Thunderbirds and never looked back as they built a 55-21 lead at the break behind 56.4% shooting and holding United Tribes to 33.3%. Trey Scott scored 21 of his game-high 28 points in the first half. Scott also finished the game with seven steals.
Four other players reached double figures in scoring for Anoka-Ramsey. Tyler Salkey recorded a season-high 15 points, with Jake Ruhland (14 points), Jonathon Conner (12 points), and Tim Daniels (10 points) all reaching double figures off the bench. Dan Konz led the Golden Rams with 11 rebounds as Anoka-Ramsey out-rebounded United Tribes 49-30.
In Game Two, Anoka-Ramsey defeated Mesabi 92-67 behind another strong performance on the boards as they held a 47-29 edge including 26-12 on the offensive glass. Another fast start gave the Golden Rams an early lead capped by a 28 foot, off-balance three-pointer at the halftime buzzer by Ben Hill to give Anoka-Ramsey a 47-32 halftime lead.
The second half proved to be much of the same as Anoka-Ramsey held the sharp-shooting Norseman to only 2-10 from the three-point line in the half and pulled in 13 offensive rebounds (26 for the game).
Trey Scott led the team in scoring with 25 points and nine steals. Once again, four other scored in double figures. This time it was Tyler Salkey (14 points), Matt Fridberg (11 points), Dan Konz (10 points), and Ben Hill (10 points).
The Golden Rams also had a balance effort on the glass with four players pulling in at least six rebounds (Konz - 8, Scott - 7, Salkey - 6, Brandon Spears - 6), and five others with at least three.
Anoka-Ramsey improves to 10-3 on the season, matching their win total from last season. Next up is MCAC Southern Division play as the Golden Rams host Ridgewater College on Wednesday, January 5th at 8:00pm.
