Game Recap: Golden Rams defeat Madison 84-76

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating the Madison College Wolfpack 84-76 on Saturday afternoon.

In a first half marred by fouls, the Golden Rams had to play a majority of the half without any post players. Despite the disadvantage, and allowing Madison 22 trips to the free throw line, the Golden Rams took a 43-38 lead into the break.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 46.9% in the half and held Madison to just 27.8% including 1 of 18 from the three point line. But a 17-5 edge in made free throws allowed the Wolfpack to keep the game close.

The second half saw Anoka-Ramsey slow build the lead. With 5 minutes to play the lead grew to 14 points at 72-58.

But much like the previous night against Milwaukee Area Tech, the Golden Rams couldn't put their opponent away. Madison cut the lead to just six with under a minute to play, but timely free throws helped seal the win.

Anoka-Ramsey finished the game shooting 50.9% from the field; their second straight game shooting at least 50%.

The Golden Rams also held a 40-34 rebounding advantage, and held Madison to 4 of 31 shooting from the three point line (12.9%).

Trent Pollard once again lead the team in scoring with a game-high 24 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field, and making 8 of 9 free throw attempts.

Joe Lyons scored 21 points on 9 of 15 shooting.

Joey Weldon recorded his second double double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of playing time due to early foul trouble.

Anthony Brama chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.

Chris Kpahn also had seven points to go along with four rebounds.

The Golden Rams are 2-0 on the season and will next face the University of St. Thomas JV team on November 14th at home. Tip is set for 7:00pm.
