NDSCS came into the game 6-1 on the season with all six wins on their home floor where they had been defeating teams by an average margin of 42 points.  The 85 points were the fewest they have scored all season.

Anoka-Ramsey jumped out to an early lead and sustained it for most of the first half before falling behind 39-37 at halftime.

The Golden Rams held NDSCS to just 34.3% shooting in the opening period while connecting on 51.7% of their own shots.  However, NDSCS was 12 of 13 from the free throw line while Anoka-Ramsey managed just 4 of 9 shooting.

NDSCS quickly scored the first seven points of the second half and threatened to blow the game open, leading by as many as 15 (75-60).

But the Golden Rams put one last run on, trimming the lead to single digits with under a minute to play.  Free throws sealed the win for the Wildcats in the closing seconds of play.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 46% from the field (29-63).  NDSCS finished at 47.5% (28-59).

The difference came at the free-throw line as the Wildcats finished 23 of 31 (74.2%), while Anoka-Ramsey shot just 14 of 25 (56%).

Game Recap: Golden Rams Outlast DCTC 64-51

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team survived a poor shooting night, both from the field and the free throw line, to outlast Dakota County Technical College 64-51 on Wednesday.

In a game that saw neither team shoot the ball well, the Golden Rams did just enough to hold off the Blue Knights and run their record to 4-0 to start the season.

After falling behind 9-2 in the first six minutes of the game Anoka-Ramsey was able to claw their way into a 28-19 halftime lead behind solid defense forcing 11 first half turnovers.

The Blue Knights shot just 26.7% in the first half to go with those 11 turnovers, however the Golden Rams didn't fare much better from the field, shooting just 12 of 35 (34.3%) themselves.

Things didn't get much prettier in the second half for either team although DCTC was able to trim the deficit to a one possession game on a number of occasions.

A late switch to zone defense allowed the Golden Rams to increase their lead back to double digits, leading by 13 with just over a minute remaining.  But missed free throws allowed the Blue Knights to cut the lead to just six points with 40 seconds left.

Anoka-Ramsey forced a couple turnovers resulting in fast break points, and hit just enough free throws to keep DCTC at bay in the closing minute of play.

Anoka-Ramsey shot a season-low 39.3% from the field and connected on just six of 24 three-point attempts.  The Golden Rams also made just ten of their 23 free throws on the night.

DCTC shot 31.3% for the game, three of 20 from the three-point line.

DCTC out-rebounded Anoka-Ramsey 51-43, the first time this season the Golden Rams have been out-rebounded.  However, the Blue Knights committed 18 turnovers to just nine for Anoka-Ramsey.

The Golden Rams were lead by Joey Weldon's 13 points and eight rebounds.

Trent Pollard recorded 12 points, four assists, and six steals.

Lemuel Doe chipped in 11 points off the bench, with Chris Kpahn connecting on four of six shots to finish with nine points.

Anoka-Ramsey will travel to Wahpeton, North Dakota to face NJCAA Division I power North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday at 4:00pm.

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating the Madison College Wolfpack 84-76 on Saturday afternoon.

In a first half marred by fouls, the Golden Rams had to play a majority of the half without any post players. Despite the disadvantage, and allowing Madison 22 trips to the free throw line, the Golden Rams took a 43-38 lead into the break.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 46.9% in the half and held Madison to just 27.8% including 1 of 18 from the three point line. But a 17-5 edge in made free throws allowed the Wolfpack to keep the game close.

But much like the previous night against Milwaukee Area Tech, the Golden Rams couldn't put their opponent away. Madison cut the lead to just six with under a minute to play, but timely free throws helped seal the win.

The second half was much of the same as the Golden Rams pushed their lead to as many as 28 (78-50) before some late turnovers allowed Milwaukee to cut it to nine with 45 seconds left. But an emphatic dunk by Joey Weldon silenced the comeback along with late free throws.
