"We Are, A-R!" Weekly Update #4

The JUCO Jam on Sunday was a real benefit to our players.  They got a chance to face some other competition for once, and since we have a relatively inexperienced team it was good for them to get some game action with officials, score, clock, etc.
Officially we went 1-2 on the day losing to Southeastern and Southwestern before defeating Sauk Valley in our final game.  That final game was a fantastic team display.  I don’t remember the exact numbers but we won by about 25 or so and I’m pretty sure we held Sauk Valley to less than ten points in the second half (games were two 20-minute running time halves).
The highlights of that final game:
1)      Jimmy Sauser hit 4-5 threes in the second half alone
2)      6’0” guard Lemuel Doe had a drive down the lane from the left wing with a power one-handed dunk in traffic
3)      Shortly after that dunk, Doe stole the ball around mid-court on the left sideline, pushed the ball up 2-3 dribbles and hit a streaking David Hicks up the right sideline for an alley-oop dunk
Overall there was inconsistency in our play and the guys had a chance to face some adversity they weren’t accustomed to, but those things were expected by us coaches.  But there was also some fantastic team play and some positives to take away from the experience.
The best part was the guys coming together in that final game to end the day on a high note.  We also got some great feedback from other college coaches on our team and players.
We have a few weeks now before our first exhibition game on November 1st and the guys are excited to continue working toward improving as a team.
Say it with me...
